Watford football club will host an inaugural Crypto Cup at the end of the 2019/2020 English Premier League season.
The Crypto Cup set for May 16, will be hosted in partnership with the club’s official sponsor and crypto sports betting brand – Sportsbet.io. The football event will feature a meetup of crypto enthusiasts, crypto education and a 5-a-side football match.
Speaking on the event, Paul O’Brien Commercial Director of Watford FC remarked:
“This is the first event of its kind to be organised at Watford FC, throughout this season we have been delighted to welcome the crypto community to experience match days at Vicarage Road, through our partnership with Sportsbet.io and the Bitcoin jersey sponsorship. Now in May, we will support this partnership with a special day which will allow the crypto community to play at the Vic, whilst immersing themselves in discussions, education and fun”
O’Brien says the event seeks to highlight the role of football in educating and increasing awareness around the benefits of cryptocurrency adoption. Adding that the Crypto Cup will have in attendance guest speakers, developers, entrepreneurs, and newcomers in the crypto industry.
Also commenting on the crypto-soccer meetup, Tim Heath CEO of Sportbet.io stated:
“After witnessing what an impact football sponsorship has had on raising awareness for cryptocurrency, we’re really looking forward to taking it even further with Watford FC. Being part of the conversation on the day with both fans and experts, exploring what the future of crypto adoption looks like and enjoying the Vicarage Road experience is a brilliant opportunity for all involved.”
Watford had last year announced partnership with Sportsbet.io which saw the football club become the first to have the Bitcoin ₿ logo on the arm sleeves of its team jersey.
The partnership also pitch Watford to begin accepting Bitcoin for purchases of club merchandise on their online store.
