Coca-Cola and Cryptocurrency Payments

Asia Pacific bottler and distributor Coca-Cola Amatil will now accept cryptocurrency payments at its vending machines.

According to an official announcement, the new crypto payment option is courtesy of a partnership with digital asset firm Centra pay, which now offers users the option to buy drinks using Bitcoin (BTC) and any ERC-20 token.

At this time, the Coca-Cola Amatil brand runs over 2000 vending machines in Australia, New Zealand, and four (4) other countries; hence bringing crypto adoption to a wide customer base.

To use the new feature, consumers are required to use their smartphones to scan the QR code payment sticker on the vending machines, provided they have the Sylo Smart Wallet on their device.

The Sylo Smart Wallet is a decentralized app which integrates messaging services with a digital wallet, offering support for coins such as Bitcoin, and Ethereum.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Calls for Cashless Payments Increase

Speaking on the partnership, Centrapay CEO – Jerome Faury notes that a greater awareness on the need to reduce physical contact at retail points has become a necessity.

Centrapay believes that the partnership with Coca-Cola Amatil will bring easy access to crypto payments for the bottler’s 270 million global consumers.

Faury is quoted:

“Now we’ve shown how it can work in Australia and New Zealand, we’re looking to grow the business globally. We’ve established a presence in North America and will be targeting the U.S. market next.”
